Iqaluit, Nunavut, October 7, 2022 – The Qikiqtani Inuit Association’s (QIA) initiative to help Inuit during the COVID-19 pandemic continues with the final installments of both the Emergency Vouchers for Elders (EVE) Program and the Qikiqtani Inuit household distribution program, totaling a distribution of 3.7 million dollars for both programs.

The EVE distributions will take place on October 18, November 1, November 15 and November 29, 2022,  this will happen in four installments of $250 to each elder from the Qikiqtani Region.

Approximately 1400 elders from the Qikiqtani Region will be eligible to benefit from this program.  Elders are eligible under this program if they are 60 years or older on or before December 31, 2022  and are registered under a Qikiqtani community under the Nunavut Agreement with Nunavut Tunngavik Inc.

In the coming months, QIA will also announce a one-time distribution for each household in the Qikiqtani region.

Distribution location will be announced once they have been finalized.  For more information about theses programs, you can email COVID-19@qia.ca or call us toll free at 1-800-667-2742 and ask about the Emergency Vouchers for Elders Program or the Qikiqtani Inuit Household distribution program.

The QIA Executive Committee approved these methods of distribution earlier this week totalling 3.7 million in COVID-19 funding to be distributed to Qikiqtani Inuit.   The funds for the QIA COVID-19 response plan come from the Indigenous Community Support Fund from the Government of Canada
