QIA Appoint Two New Community Directors

for the 2022-2026 Term

Iqaluit, Nunavut – June 26, 2025- The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) announces the appointment for the Community Directors of Sanikiluaq and Igloolik, after the two positions became vacant.

As per Bylaw No.05. the board shall appoint the person who had the second highest number of votes during that community election, which took place in December of 2022 for both positions.

Moses Appaqaq and Louis Tapardjuk received the second highest number of votes in the 2022 election, and both have agreed to represent their respective communities until December 2026.

The QIA would like to thank Davidee Qavvik of Sanikiluaq and Peter Ivalu of Igloolik for their dedication during their time on the QIA Board of Directors.  Levi Barnabas, Vice-President of QIA, will be assuming the Mary River Portfolio on an interim basis until October 2025.

The QIA would also like to send a reminder that applications are still being received for the vacant Community Director position in Iqaluit, in which the deadline is July 11, 2025.
