Iqaluit, Nunavut – December 12, 2022 – The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) Chief Returning Officer (CRO) Monica Ell-Kanayuk today announced that Olayuk Akesuk was elected as President of QIA with 61.2% of votes.

 

 

The QIA CRO also announced the elected members for Community Director:

Steven Polee Lucassie    Iqaluit

Martha Jaw        Kinngait

Joshua Katsak    Pond Inlet

Solomon Allurut                Sanirajak

Davidee Qavvik Sanikiluaq

Tommy Akavak – Acclaimed – Kimmirut

 

All terms will be for four years with the exception of Kinngait which is a by-election with a two year term.

 

Voter turnout was 20.6% in the Qikiqtani Region.

 

QIA would like to thank all the members that cast their ballots through proxy, advanced polls, mobile and in-person on election day.
