Position: Specialist, Conservation Agreements

The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) is seeking a Conservation Agreements Specialist
This position supports QIA conservation projects and ensures QIA meets its responsibilities under the Nunavut Agreement and Conservation agreements. This job is a good fit for someone who enjoys working with people, cares about Inuit rights, and wants to support conservation and economic opportunities in the Qikiqtani Region.
Reporting to the Manager of Conservation Agreements, the Specialist ensures agreements balance conservation objectives with economic opportunities. This role supports the planning and reporting requirements on activities carried out from Inuit Impact Benefit Agreements (IIBA). These agreements are connected to parks, protected areas, and conservation work. The role also includes working with partners such as Inuit organizations, the Government of Nunavut, and the federal government. The Conservation Economy Specialist helps organize meetings, supports community consultations, and tracks and reports on project funding. The role includes writing reports, preparing briefing notes, and supports with agreement implementation. The Specialist also helps make sure deadlines are met and projects stay on track.
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience working with Inuit communities;
- 2 years of experience in conservation work, programs, or similar areas;
- Basic administrative skills
- Basic financial management skills (tracking budgets and reports);
- Understanding of IIBA’s and the Nunavut Agreement;
- Strong communication and writing skills;
- Able to prioritize, organize work and manage more than one task at a time;
- Experience guiding or helping others is an asset;
- Ability to speak Inuktitut is an asset
A post-secondary degree in a related field (such as conservation, business, or accounting) is usually required. A mix of education and experience may also be accepted. Knowledge of the Nunavut Agreement and QIA programs is an asset. Ability to speak Inuktitut is an asset.
The salary range for this position is $103,628 to $124,313 per annum, plus a Nunavut Northern Allowance of $27,600 per annum. Annual vacation travel assistance (VTA) is also provided.
