Iqaluit, Nunavut – June 5, 2025- The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) concluded their Board of Directors meeting today.  Each department presented updates on a wide variety of QIA programs, activities, and responsibilities.  In addition, QIA’s subsidiary organizations Kakivak Association and Qikiqtaaluk Corporation gave presentations to the board.  There were a few resolutions passed during this week’s meeting, including:

  • Approval to allocate $2.5 million of Legacy Fund spending towards cultural programming, Inuit post secondary education, daycare resources and the opportunities fund
  • Approval of cost adjustments towards the Kakivak Association’s construction contract for the Sanirajak Child Care Facility
  • Approval of By-Laws for newly created Not-for-profit Housing Entity
  • Approval for QIA to become a member of the Not-for-profit Housing Entity
  • Approval to appoint Kataisee Attagutsiak to represent QIA on the newly created Not-for-profit Housing Board

There were also appointments to the following boards:

  • Nunavut Wildlife Management Board – Joshua Arreak
  • Social Policy Committee – Elders Representative – Martha Maktar
  • Nunavummi Disabilities Makinnasuaqtiit Society – Martha Maktar
  • Nunavut Trust – Archie Angnakak
  • Kakivak Loans and Grants Appeals Committee – Charlie Qumuatuq
  • Nunavut Impact Review Board – Paul Kaludjak

 

The following board did not receive any applicants and will therefore be readvertised: Qausuittuq National Park Joint Planning and Management Committee, Katannilik Territorial Park Community Joint Planning and Management Committee, Napaartulik Territorial Park Community Joint Planning and Management Committee
