Iqaluit, Nunavut – May 21, 2025- The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) is seeking expressions of interest from individuals interested in being nominated as an Independent Chair to the Mary River Project’s Environmental Working Groups (EWG).

The Environmental Working Group is collectively formed by The Terrestrial Environmental Working Group (TEWG) and the Marine Environmental Working Group (MEWG) and together provide advice, guidance and enforceable recommendations on Baffinland Iron Mines Inc. (BIMC) terrestrial and marine environmental monitoring programs.

Responsibilities of the Chair include but are not limited to:

  • Chair three 3 TEWG and 3 MEWG meetings per year
  • Chair 3 regularly scheduled touchpoint meetings for both groups
  • Chair additional ad-hoc meetings
  • Draft Meeting documents for circulation
  • Record and distribute meeting minutes and action items
  • Generate bi-annual reports on the activities of the EWG’s
  • Facilitate member recommendation process
  • Facilitate dispute resolution processes
  • The Chair will work with EWG Members to develop an annual meeting schedule and anticipated -resources required for effective discussions and recommendations
  • Liaise with the NIRB as required
  • Maintain a register of documentation
