QIA Welcomes proposals for the Ilagiiktunut Fund

February 1, 2021, Iqaluit, NU – The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) is once again receiving proposals and applications for the Ilagiiktunut Fund program.  The Ilagiiktunut Fund, and other QIA regular programming, were temporarily paused in early 2020, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Ilagiiktunut Fund is part of the Mary River Inuit Impact and Benefit  Agreement (IIBA). It is funded by joint contributions from Baffinland Iron Mine Corporation (BIMC) and the Qikiqtani Inuit Association. The fund itself is administered by QIA. The annual budget for Ilagiiktunut is $1,100,000.

The Fund was established in 2013 because QIA and Inuit recognized the need to make important improvements in community capacity, particularly in this period of growth and change brought on by natural resource developments, within the Qikiqtani Region of Nunavut.

The eligible communities under Ilagiiktunut are: Arctic Bay, Clyde River, Sanirajak, Igloolik, and Pond Inlet.

How to Apply:

Please review Illagiiktunut Funding Guidelines on QIA’s website at www.qia.ca before preparing a proposal. You can download the Ilagiiktunut Fund Application Package (Level 1 up to $30,000 and Level 2, $30,000 and up) from the QIA’s website, or request one in writing or by phone from QIA or your Community Liaison  Officer.

Prospective applicants are also encouraged to contact the QIA Coordinator, Grants and Contributions, Nala Sagiatook, by email at nsagiatook@qia.ca or phone at 867- 975-8440 for assistance developing proposals, or to ensure completeness, accuracy, and eligibility.

QIA recommends submitting your proposal at least four weeks prior to planned project start date, to give adequate time for review and screening by the Review Committee.

Proposals can be submitted using any one of the following methods:

  • By email at nsagiatook@qia.ca
  • By fax to (867) 979-3238
  • In person at QIA office in Iqaluit, or to a QIA Community Liaison Officer
  • By regular mail to:
