QIA Launches Program to Support Inuit Dog Team Owners

Iqaluit, Nunavut, October 1, 2025 – The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) is pleased to announce the official launch of the Qikiqtani Qimuksiqtiit Program (QQP), a permanent initiative to support Inuit dog team owners across the Qikiqtani region.

This program provides financial assistance to Qikiqtani Inuit who are established qimuksiqtiit (dog team practitioners) and is part of QIA’s ongoing commitment to Saimaqatigiingniq and the Qikiqtani Truth Commission recommendations.

The program was made permanent following the success of a three-year pilot project and the strong support voiced by qimuksiqtiit across the region. By offering direct support to established dog team owners, QIA is helping to revitalize and sustain dog teaming practices in the Qikiqtani region.

Qikiqtani Inuit who have five or more dogs are eligible for funding, including those who have applied in previous years.
