Iqaluit, Nunavut, April 14 2022 – The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) is excited to promote this years Nunavut Quest from April 18 until  25, 2022.  The mushers will depart from Arctic Bay and arrive in Igloolik.

“Since the cancellation of the Nunavut Quest in 2020 and 2021, we are even more excited to watch this years Nunavut Quest and greeting them at the finish line.  The Nunavut Quest fosters so much pride and excitement knowing that just a few decades ago, we were unsure if Inuit dogs and the tradition of dog team racing would survive.”  said QIA President, Olayuk Akesuk

In 2019, the Government of Canada formally apologized to Qikiqtani Inuit and acknowledged past colonial practices and policies which radically transformed the Inuit homeland and ways of life.

This historic apology was the result of many years of work by QIA and the Qikiqtani Truth Commission.

The apology included an initial financial commitment to the QIA in which QIA has dedicated $100, 000 each year, for the next six years, dedicated to the Nunavut Quest.
