The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) congratulates the newly elected mayors and councillors in the Qikiqtani Region.
On Monday October 28, 2019 municipal elections were held in every Qikiqtani community in Nunavut.
QIA thanks all the people who worked on the election to ensure that Inuit were able to vote. QIA also commends all Inuit who took the time to exercise their democratic right to vote.
QIA’s work is closely tied to the local hamlets, as such we look forward to continuing our ongoing partnerships with Qikiqtani mayors and councillors on projects and initiatives that serve Inuit.
Our team is excited to work closely with the High Arctic hamlets to implement the benefits and investments associated with Tallurutiup Imanga and Tuvaijuittuq such as local jobs and marine infrastructure.
QIA also looks forward to continuing our work with the hamlets impacted by the Mary River project to deliver benefits and represent the voices of Inuit.
