QIA Congratulates Mushers of Nunavut Quest
Iqaluit, Nunavut, May 2, 2022 – The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) is a proud sponsor of the 2022 Nunavut Quest and would like to congratulate all of the mushers that took part in this years race from Arctic Bay to Igloolik. Due to weather conditions, this quest took place over the course of nine days, rather than the 7 days that was planned.
“After a 2-year delay of the Nunavut Quest because of COVID-19, the excitement to welcome the mushers to Igloolik was evident. For each member to be able to train, practice and race the 420km journey is a true showcase or perseverance, patience and dedication. Congratulations to all that participated, organized and volunteered to make this years race a success”, said Olayuk Akesuk, President of QIA

The QIA sponsorship to the event included gasoline and oil support for snowmobiles, food for camps along the trail, compensation for timekeepers, a snowmobile support team, a community feast in Arctic Bay and Igloolik and prize money for mushers.
QIA will continue to work towards Saimaqatigiingniq and putting into action the recommendations of the Qikiqtani Truth Commission.
