Iqaluit, Nunavut, October 10, 2025 – The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) concluded its Board of Directors meeting this week in Iqaluit. The Board reviewed and approved key resolutions focused on supporting Inuit priorities, advancing community development, and strengthening governance across the Qikiqtani Region.
Notable resolutions were passed during the meeting, including:
• Approval for continued collaboration with communities to ensure the Harvesters Support Grant continues to reflect local needs and values, with particular focus on supporting youth, women, and intercommunity learning initiatives.
• Approval of the Land Disposal Agreement between QIA and the City of Iqaluit for the Sivumugiaq Development Project.
• Approval of the “QIA Programs Operational Procedures” and the “Community Resources and Opportunities Operational Procedures”.
• Appointment of Billy Etooangat of Pangnirtung to the QIA Executive Committee, filling a recent vacancy.
The Board also made the following appointments:
• Qikiqtaaluk Corporation Board: Joe Adla Kunuk
• Kakivak Association Board: Phyllis Kanayuk and Micheline Kilabuk-Cote
• Qausuittuq National Park Joint Planning and Management Committee: Billy Merkosak
• Auyuittuq National Park Joint Planning and Management Committee: Chris Aningmiuq
• Katannilik Territorial Park Community Joint Planning and Management Committee: Charlie Pootoogook
• NTI’s Igluvut Housing Entity: David Kilabuk
The Napaartulik Territorial Park Community Joint Planning and Management Committee did not receive any applicants and will be readvertised. Watch for upcoming advertisements on QIA’s website and social media channels.
