Iqaluit, Nunavut – September 18, 2025 — The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Pitseolak Alainga as the Community Director for Iqaluit.

As per QIA Bylaw No. 5, section 6.01.4 (b) (2), this appointment is for a position with less than two years remaining in its term. Therefore, a by-election is not permitted. The appointed Community Director’s term will conclude at the next QIA election in December 2026.

In June, QIA issued a call for applications, inviting Inuit in Iqaluit to put their names forward to serve in this important role. At the September executive meeting in Igloolik, nine applications were reviewed by QIA’s Executive Committee and Board of Directors. Following this thorough process, Pitseolak Alainga has been selected to represent Iqaluit.

QIA extends its gratitude to Steven Polee Lucassie, who has served as Iqaluit’s Community Director for the past seven years. His commitment and contributions to Iqaluit Inuit have been deeply valued.

The Community Director plays an essential role in each community, connecting Inuit with QIA programs, services, and decision-making, ensuring that community voices remain at the heart of QIA’s work.
