Iqaluit, Nunavut, October 8, 2025 – The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) Board of Directors concluded their Annual General Meeting today in Iqaluit, approving major resolutions that strengthen financial sustainability, community investment, and infrastructure development across the Qikiqtani Region.
To support continued delivery of benefits under QIA’s 2022–2026 Strategic Plan, the Board approved a 10% drawdown of the QIA Legacy Fund capital, allocating $2,242,410 to the Community Resources and Opportunities Fund for 2025–2026, and $10,991,387 to establish a new Operational Sustainability Fund to help maintain QIA’s infrastructure assets.
The Board also approved a multi-year renewal for PMC funding of $2,379,992 for 2026–2027 and 2028–2029, and authorized Kakivak Association to amend the Nunavut Community and Childcare Spaces (NCCS) contract for the Arctic Bay childcare facility, adding $657,862.96 to the original $14 million approval.
The Board further directed staff to develop a spend plan for $55.6 million in available funding for presentation in 2025. Immediate priorities include the Igloolik Wellness Facility, new housing projects and expansion of QIA Housing, the Pond Inlet Microgrid, new daycare development, investments in Qikiqtaaluk Corporation projects, and community harbour development.
QIA also approved the expenditure of $33 million from the Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund to continue addressing urgent housing and infrastructure needs across the region.
