EVENT: Qikiqtani Inuit Association election results

Iqaluit, Nunavut – December 13, 2016 –The results from yesterday’s Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) elections have been announced.

The top position in the running in this election of vice president went to Olayuk Akesuk from Kinngait (Biography attached).

Biography for new QIA Vice-President: Olayuk Akesuk

Olayuk Akesuk was born and raised in Kinngait where he now resides with his children and grandchildren. Throughout his life Akesuk has been passionate about hunting and providing country food for his family a passion that speaks to his deep commitment to traditional Inuit culture and values.

Olayuk has been involved in politics since the creation of the territory in 1999 and has always worked hard to help Inuit in the Qikiqtani region maximize opportunities for advancement.
