IQALUIT, Nunavut (March 16, 2011) – Qikiqtani Inuit Association President Okalik Eegeesiak is pleased to introduce Mr. Joanasie Akumalik as the new Executive Director.

Mr. Akumalik is well known throughout Qikiqtani and Nunavut. He is a former Mayor of Arctic Bay, was involved in the invaluable work of the Qikiqtani Truth Commission, worked with Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated and has some business experience.

“Joanasie brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in dealing with local, regional and territorial issues” said Eegeesiak. “We are very pleased to have him as part of the team at QIA as we continue our efforts to protect and promote Inuit rights and values.”

Mr. Akumalik has been employed by the Qikiqtani Inuit Association since 2009 and his appointment is effective immediately.
