Position: Policy Analyst

 The Policy Analyst position, located in Iqaluit, reports to the Director of Inuit Programs and Services and is responsible to provide general research, analysis, and advocacy on social and cultural issues, and supports the development of social programs being delivered by the Qikiqtani Inuit Association.

This position provides key support to the Department of Inuit Program and Services by undertaking policy related activities, providing support and guidance in interpreting and understanding the implications of federal and territorial legislation and policy trend for Qikiqtani Inuit, Nunavut and Inuit Nunangat, and provides expertise in understanding impacts of government decisions on Qikiqtani Inuit and communities.  Executing the responsibilities of this role may involve working directly with QIA subsidiary organizations, key stakeholders and community groups, external consultants, instructors/facilitators, participants, and third-party funders.

Ensuring accountability and transparency is a priority for QIA for this position. This means that consistent, efficient coordination, effective administration, and clear reporting related to social and cultural policies in the Qikiqtani region is a critical function of the role.

Applicants must demonstrate their proficiency in conducting research and analysis; have an awareness of the political, social and economic environment impacting Qikiqtani Inuit, Nunavut and Inuit Nunangat; demonstrate excellent technical writing skills and have strong organization and file management skill and basic finance administration skills.  This position is suited to a candidate with strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to use tact and diplomacy under pressure.

Experience in public speaking and presenting to diverse groups is required.  The ideal candidate will have two years of experience working in policy, program design, program development or evaluation in the social or cultural policy field.

Ideally, this position requires a post-secondary degree in political-science, public administration, humanities, social sciences, or related field. An acceptable combination of relevant education and experience may be considered equivalent. A Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

Preference will be given to Nunavut Inuit who meet the qualifications.  Starting salary for this position is $82,140.00 per annum, plus Nunavut Northern Allowance of $27,600. Housing is not available.
