The Communications Specialist position promotes a strong and positive organizational presence and ensures accurate and timely distribution of communications materials to Nunavut Inuit.

Reporting to the Manager of Communications, this position will support internal and external communications, and manages the interface of QIA’s social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc.  The Communications Specialist works with the Manager of Communications to gather, research and prepare communication materials and develop the quarterly newsletter Tusarassat, the QIA annual report, presentations, public service announcements, as well as other QIA communication tools. The position builds and maintains respectful relationships with a network of media and communications representatives and leverages the established channels to deliver important information to all stakeholders, including Inuit, resource developers, government agencies, media, staff and targeted audiences.

The Communications Specialist is responsible for keeping accurate records of all inquiries received through QIA’s email account and responds to and directs emails received through this communication channel and will take meeting minutes as required. This role will support QIA’s community consultations, workshops, media events, ceremonies as well as other public engagements. This role will conduct surveys to identify the interests and concerns of Qikiqtani Inuit and other key groups served by the organization.  In fulfilling its duties, the Communications Specialist follows QIA’s Communications Policy.

To be considered for this opportunity, you must have a minimum of two years of progressive experience in a communications role, with experience creating and editing public service or information announcements. Experience managing media inquires and preparing for media events is also required. The incumbent must be self-motivated to meet tight deadlines, have excellent organizational skills and posses an understanding of communication practices for creating and delivering information, managing public perception and supporting media relations.  Exceptional communication skills are required, along with the ability to work in print, web, and social media interfaces.  Inuktitut language skills are a strong asset.

This position generally requires a post-secondary diploma in Journalism, Communications, Marketing or related discipline. A professional designation is an asset.  A combination of relevant education and experience may also be considered an acceptable equivalency.

Starting salary for this position is $81,013/annum, plus $24,000/annum northern allowance. No housing is available.
