Position: Governance Manager

The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) is seeking an individual to manage and support QIA’s governance system.
The Governance Manager position is responsible for managing and supporting the organization’s governance system by providing professional administrative and logistical support to the Department of Executive Management. This position will oversee and support effective governance for Board meetings, Executive meetings, Annual General Meetings, committees, or other QIA events by managing the meeting processes and administration of records.
Reporting to the Director of Administration, this role will be responsible for planning and arranging logistics and services, ensuring adequate event resources and supplies are available, preparing, reviewing and distributing briefing documents and meeting materials, producing effective meeting agendas, taking minutes, preparing translations, and tracking resolutions and action items arising from these meetings.
Additionally, this position will oversee the establishment of a new records management system to switch from paper to electronic record keeping.
The successful incumbent will promote good governance practices, lead with a team spirit and work collaboratively with others to build positive relationships and achieve goals. This position requires excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively handle matters requiring a high degree of diplomacy, sensitivity and confidentiality. The successful applicant must be able to work under pressure and within tight deadlines while coordinating multiple projects. Fluency in Inuktitut is a strong asset.
Knowledge and understanding of board by-laws and not-for-profit governance practices is required, along with excellent computer skills, and a general understanding of Qikiqtani Inuit Association and its governance structure. Two years of experience working in a governance role or a progressively responsible administration role supporting boards and committees is also required. An acceptable Criminal Record Check is required.
This position generally requires a post-secondary diploma in Information Management, Public Administration or a related field. Project management certification is an asset. A combination of relevant education and related experience may also be deemed an acceptable equivalency.
Starting salary for this position is $80,418 per annum, plus a Northern Allowance of $24,000 per annum. Housing is not provided.
