The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) is offering an exciting opportunity to an individual who can lead, advocate and foster collaboration for Inuit-led research activities.
The Research Manager role will lead the development of QIA led research-related initiatives in the Qikiqtani region, asserting Qikiqtani Inuit governance in research, community-based research, and monitoring. This position represents a key operational role in supporting the Department of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit & Engagement and supporting initiatives and projects which advance Qikiqtani Inuit Association’s vision and priorities.
Reporting to the Director of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit & Engagement, this position supports the organization by undertaking activities such as implementation of the research provisions of the Tallurutiup Imanga Inuit Impact and Benefit Agreement (IIBA), implementing the principles of Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami’s National Inuit Strategy on Research in the Qikiqtani Region of Nunavut, supporting the development and management of Inuit research infrastructure, and coordinating the development and implementation of QIA policies and procedures, including the development and implementation of a ‘Qikiqtani Inuit Policy on Research’.
Responsibilities include review of scientific licensing applications, representing QIA on various research and project review committees, research ethics boards, and providing technical support for the development of research and monitoring capabilities within QIA’s Inuit Stewardship/Nauttiqsuqtiit program. Activities specific to implementation of the Tallurutiup Imanga IIBA may include coordinating the development of a Tallurutiup Imanga Research and Monitoring Strategy, Inuit Research and Monitoring Fund, and the review of research proposals in accordance with the IIBA. An awareness of the political, social, and economic environment of the Qikiqtani Inuit Association, and of Nunavut and Inuit Nunangat in general is required.
Applicants must demonstrate their skills in designing and implementing research protocols, experience with qualitative and or quantitative research and be knowledgeable of social, health or natural science research methodologies and approaches to decolonizing research. Ideally, applicants will have two years of experience in research administration, coordination or delivery. Experience in database management, and financial administration of projects or programs is also required.
This role requires strong leadership skills, and public speaking skills make presentations, or facilitate group meetings. This role requires highly developed written and verbal communication skills and fluency in English and Inuktitut is a strong asset.
This position generally required completion of a post-secondary degree in research, social sciences or other related disciplines. A combination of a related education and experience may be deemed an acceptable equivalency.
Starting salary for this position is $89,433 per annum, plus a Northern Allowance of $27,600 per annum.
