The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) is seeking a skilled, competent finance professional to fill the role of Chief Financial Officer. QIA is the Regional Inuit Association for the Qikiqtani Region of Nunavut, one of three Designated Inuit Organization under the Nunavut Agreement. Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) advances the rights and benefits of Qikiqtani Inuit through protecting and promoting our social, political, economic and cultural interests; while safeguarding the land, waters and resources that sustain our communities.
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a senior management role with the highest level of fiscal responsibility at Qikiqtani Inuit Association. The CFO position is responsible for the controllership function and will manage the financial affairs of the organization. The CFO will plan, direct, control and evaluate QIA’s financial operations to ensure established objectives are met. This role will be responsible for developing and implementing financial policies and procedures, establishing financial controls, allocating resources and ensuring Qikiqtani Inuit Association meets both it’s short and long-term financial goals and obligations. This position works closely with QIA Board of Directors, senior management and external partners.
Reporting to the Executive Director, this position manages the financial affairs of the organization. The CFO position will participate in strategic planning and preparation of the annual budget for the organization and will allocate resources to each department. This position will lead year-end audits and prepare all financial and statistical reports to support operations. The CFO is required to develop financial policies, update financial procedures and systems, and ensures authenticity of financial and accounting information. This position is responsible for all treasury functions such as managing revenue, investments and capital, identifying risk, developing long-term financial strategies and acting as a trusted advisor to the Executive on all financial matters.
The ideal candidate will have ten (10) years of progressive experience in an accounting or financial management role. As this role is responsible for all treasury functions, the role requires an incumbent who is experienced in providing strategic financial advice and recommendations to executives level management on short and long-term financial goals. Experience developing financial procedures and policies is required, along with experience with developing, allocating and managing budgets, contribution agreements and other third-party funding. Experience preparing for and participating in annual audit is required. Applicants must demonstrate experience analyzing and managing financial risk.
Proven ability to work within demanding deadlines and in a politically sensitive environment and a solid understanding of the Nunavut Agreement and the political, social, and economic environment of Nunavut is required. An acceptable Criminal Record Check is required.
The preferred education for this role is a degree in Accounting, Commerce or related discipline. A valid, certified accounting designation is an asset qualification. A combination of relevant education and related experience may also be deemed an acceptable equivalency.
Starting salary range for this position is $128,848 to $188,978 per annum, plus a Northern Allowance of $27,600 per annum. Housing is not provided.
