The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) is hiring positions to support Qikiqtani Inuit Association’s Country Food Baseline Study in Pond Inlet.  The Pond Inlet Country Food Baseline Study is designed to contribute towards understanding Inuit food sovereignty in Pond Inlet and will examine how the Mary River Mine Project may be impacting Inuit food security and food sovereignty, particularly in relation to country food.  The Department of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ) and Engagement is responsible for protecting Inuit rights, advancing Inuit priorities, managing Inuit-led research and for using IQ in decision making, research, wildlife protection and community engagement.

Position 1: Community Coordinator, Country Food Baseline Study, full-time
Location: Iqaluit, Nu

Under the direction of the IQ Manager, the Community Coordinator position will lead and organize Qikiqtani Inuit Association’s (QIA’s) Pond Inlet Country Food Baseline Study. This role will be responsible for raising awareness of the Study in the community and for informing community members how they can participate.  The Community Coordinator will support an advisory committee in the design and implementation of the Study, then lead a team of community assistants to collect and track data for QIA.  Ensuring accountability and transparency to Inuit in the Qikiqtani Region is a priority consideration of QIA and of the incumbent in this role.

The Community Coordinator provides fundamental support to the Department through efficient coordination, evaluation, reporting and accounting of funds.  The incumbent will be strongly motivated to interview members in the community and execute the responsibilities of this role by working collaboratively with QIA staff, management, and stakeholders and will represent QIA in working groups and committees as required.  Leadership experience is essential. Fluency in Inuktitut is required. Applicants must demonstrate computer literacy, attention to detail, knowledge of Iqaluit and country food harvesting areas.

Starting salary for this position is $34.30 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay

Position 2: Research Assistant, Country Food Baseline Study, part-time (3)
Location: Pond Inlet, Nu

These positions will be offered as remote, work from home positions for 20 hours/week. Under the direction of the Community Coordinator, the Research Assistant position will provide support for the Pond Inlet Country Food Baseline Study as mandated by the Inuit Certainty Agreement between the Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) and the Baffinland Iron Mines Corporation (BIMC). Reporting to the Community Coordinator, the Research Assistant will support the implementation of the Pond Inlet Country Food Baseline Study. This position will raise community awareness about the purpose of the study and informing community members how they can participate, collect and track data through household and individual surveys, conducting interviews and through leading and participating in focus groups. The Research Assistant will maintain accurate and up to date records, while maintaining the security of relevant data. It is possible that confidential information will be shared by community members, so discretion and confidentiality is a key component of this role.

The Research Assistant will execute the responsibilities of this role by working collaboratively with QIA staff, management, and stakeholders and will represent QIA in the community. Ability to travel around the community is an essential component of this role. Fluency in Inuktitut is required. Applicants must demonstrate computer literacy, attention to detail, knowledge of Pond Inlet and country food harvesting areas. Access to reliable transportation, or ability to travel around the community is required.

Starting salary for this position is $27.30 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay
