QIA’s Iqaluit office closed due to bad weather

 In Media Releases

The Iqaluit office of the Qikiqtani Inuit Association will be closed this afternoon due to the weather.

The City of Iqaluit would like to advise residents that the city is suspending services, such as water delivery, waste management, garbage pick-up and snow removal, and closing city facilities to the public, until further notice, due to severe weather conditions.

Emergency services will be provided unless it is unsafe and/or impossible to do so; delays can be expected. Citizens are advised to stay off the roads due to reduced visibility, high winds and unsafe road conditions.

If you are not currently home, we highly recommend you go home and remain there until the severe weather conditions ends.

Citizens on trucked services are asked to reduce their water consumption and waste water output by deferring laundry and the use of dishwashers, as well as by taking a shower instead of a bath.

Owners of vehicles are reminded to move their vehicles off the road. Vehicles that have been abandoned on the road and impede traffic during the snow-clearing operation may be impounded under local and territorial legislation, and the owner may be subject to a fine. The City will not be held responsible for any damages to vehicles left on the road either as a result of snow clearing operations or the removal of the vehicle.

For updates regarding the status of services, please call the blizzard line at 979-5300.

This Public Service Announcement remains in effect until further notice.
