BLOG: Advance full implementation of MMIWG Calls for Justice
QIA joins other Indigenous organizations including Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami (ITK) to call for the implementation of the 231 Calls for Justice from the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG).
June 3 is the anniversary of the release of the final MMIWG report. This anniversary comes at the heels of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action delivered on June, 2015 and the federal government’s apology to survivors of residential schools on June 11, 2008. This anniversary is further amplified by the protest calling for an end to racism and injustice across Canada and the United States.
The MMIWG Calls for Justice include 46 Inuit-specific measures as well as the implementation of measures such as the United National Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
For more information on the Inuit advocacy on implementing the MMIWG Calls to Action see ITK’s release at: https://www.itk.ca/itk-continues-to-advance-full-implementation-of-mmiwg-calls-for-justice/
