The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) is seeking a skilled communicator, who is confident in delivering presentations and speaking at public events. We are looking for someone who communicates effectively, builds strong relationships, and demonstrates positivity in every interaction. The Communications Specialist promotes a strong and positive organizational presence and ensures effective distribution of communications materials to Nunavut Inuit and communities.
Reporting to the Strategic Director of Communications, this position supports both internal and external communications and manages QIA’s social media platforms. Working collaboratively with the Communications team, the Specialist will gather information and conduct surveys to prepare a variety of communication materials, develop a quarterly newsletter, contribute to development of annual reports and media publications. This role will organize and execute community consultations, workshops, media events, ceremonies, and other public engagements. The Communications Specialist must maintain respectful working relationships with media, communication representatives, government agencies, staff and target audiences.
What We’re Looking For:
- Strong interpersonal skill with ability to build and maintain positive relationships;
- Two (2) years of progressive experience in a communications or public relations role;
- Ability to manage social media platforms and create engaging content;
- Well developed verbal communication skills, with fluency in both English and Inuktitut;
- Strong writing and editing skills with great attention to detail;
- Good organizational and administrative skills;
- Efficient using Microsoft Office suite.
Generally, a diploma in Inuit Studies, Journalism, or Public Relations is required. A combination of relevant coursework and experience may be deemed an acceptable equivalency. An acceptable Criminal Record Check and clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required. No housing is provided.
The salary range for this position is $86,295 to $126,565 per annum, plus a Nunavut Northern Allowance of $27,600 per annum. Annual vacation travel assistance (VTA) is also provided.
