The Vice President of Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) George Eckalook announces his resignation.

“I have served QIA for a long time and the decision to leave QIA is personal, I would like to spend more time with family at this point. I thank the people who have elected me over the years and wish the best for QIA in the years ahead” said outgoing Vice-President George Eckalook.

Mr. Eckalook’s departure is effective on June 30, 2013. As per QIA by-laws, the QIA board of directors may appoint a current board member at their next meeting to act as the Vice President until the next elections take place in December.

“On behalf of QIA, I would like to thank George for his many years of service to Inuit,” said Eegeesiak. “He will be missed and we wish him well in his future endeavors.”

George Eckalook is originally from Inukjuak, Quebec and is a member of one of the families that were relocated to Resolute Bay in 1951 and 1952.
