(Iqaluit, Nu – December 10, 2013) The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) congratulates Larry Audlaluk of Grise Fiord voted in as Vice President in a region wide election and Tommy Akulukjuk who was voted in as Community Director for Pangnirtung.

“QIA leadership, with Board support, is central to the success of advancing the rights and interests of the Inuit in the Qikiqtani Region. Larry’s experience with QIA to date ensures that there is continuity in the Executive to the issues at hand. I look forward to working with both Larry and Tommy on key priority areas” said QIA President Okalik Eegeesiak. “I would also like to thank Ms. Rita Mike who served on our board of Directors for two terms including her most recent role as Chair of QIA’s subsidiary Kakivak Association. Her leadership will be greatly missed and I wish her all the best with her future endeavors”.

The QIA Board of Directors will be meeting in the coming weeks to select a Member at Large to the QIA Executive Committee to replace Ms. Rita Mike.

The role of the Executive Committee is to provide recommendations to the Board on strategic direction, policies and procedures, act on the Board’s behalf and provide guidance to senior management to ensure that the QIA goals and objectives are met. The Executive Committee also oversees and supports the work of the President.
