A person is eligible to vote at an election if the person is a Voting Beneficiary as defined by QIA's By-Laws. A Voting Beneficiary is any individual who is:
(i) an Inuk, as defined by the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement;
(ii) 16 years of age or older; and
(iii) has lived in the Qikiqtani region for at least 12 months
A person is eligible to be nominated and stand as a candidate if the person
(a) is an Inuk in the Qikiqtani region;
(b) is 16 years of age or older;
(c) has lived in the electoral community for at least 12 consecutive months;
(d) is a current resident of the electoral community; and
(e) is not disqualified by subsection (2).
A person is not eligible to be nominated or stand as a candidate if the person
(a) works full time for Qikiqtani Inuit Association or its controlled organizations;
(b) is an election officer;
(c) has been convicted of a corrupt practice; or
(d) has been convicted of an offence punishable by imprisonment for five years or more within the three years immediately preceding election day, or whose imprisonment as a result of the conviction terminates within the three years immediately preceding election day.
